Local Governance expert Mr. George Kyei Baffour has said the directive by President Nana Akufo-Addo to MMDCEs to vacate their post is unfortunate since it will affect the administration of the various Assemblies.

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has instructed that all Metropolitan Municipal and District Chief Executives across the country to vacate their post with immediate effect and hand over to the Coordinating Directors.

But speaking to Accra-based Citi FM, Mr. Kyei Baffour mentioned that although the President has the power to revoke the appointment of MMDCEs, the directive to revoke their appointment without appointing new MMDCEs will affect the administration of the various Assemblies.

He said although the Directors of the Assembly have been ordered to take over from the MMDCEs, the Directors do not have the power to chair meetings and take some key decisions concerning the Assembly.

He, however, mentioned that to him,  the President’s decision to revoke the appointment of MMDCEs was just to safeguard the integrity of his government since the conduct of the appointees of the former government could have an adverse effect on their government.

He used the opportunity to call on the new government to expedite activities to appoint new people to occupy vacant positions to ensure the smooth running of the various Assemblies.
