Residents of Akunka Akumpabisi in the Bongo District continue to live without electricity and a CHPS compound while also struggling with poor roads and inadequate access to potable water, according to the Assembly Member for the area, Shaibu Apoore.
Mr. Apoore says the infrastructure deficits are affecting healthcare, education, farming and other economic activities in the predominantly farming community.
Speaking on Bolga FM’s Tinmaalgo Sanga, he appealed to the government, nongovernmental organisations and other development partners to support the community with basic social amenities.
He identified the lack of electricity, absence of a CHPS compound, poor road access to the community’s primary school and inadequate potable water facilities as some of the most pressing challenges facing residents.
Mr. Apoore said the condition of roads in the electoral area was particularly affecting farmers, who depend on them to transport their produce to markets.
According to him, poor road access makes transportation difficult and contributes to financial losses when farmers are unable to move their produce to markets on time.
He therefore called for improvements to the road connecting the community’s primary school to the main road.
Mr. Apoore also appealed for the extension of electricity to the community, saying access to power would improve living conditions and support economic activities.
Healthcare is another major concern, with the electoral area lacking a CHPS compound to provide basic health services to residents.
He called for the construction of a CHPS facility to improve access to primary healthcare and reduce the difficulties residents face in seeking medical attention outside the community.
Mr. Apoore also appealed for additional potable water facilities, saying inadequate access to safe drinking water continues to make life difficult for residents.
He urged the government, NGOs and development partners to prioritise Akunka Akumpabisi when allocating development projects.
Mr. Apoore said addressing the community’s infrastructure challenges would improve access to education and healthcare, strengthen farmers’ livelihoods and contribute to the broader socioeconomic development of the electoral area.
