More than 40 polling station youth organisers and executives of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Nabdam Constituency have declared their support for incumbent Constituency Chairman Tetteh Zure ahead of the party’s internal elections.
The group, representing more than 40 of the constituency’s 55 polling stations, mobilised to pick a nomination form for Mr Zure, who has served as NDC Constituency Chairman since 2015.
The executives say they want him retained to consolidate the party’s electoral gains in Nabdam and strengthen its structures ahead of the 2028 general elections.
Their endorsement comes against the backdrop of a widening NDC presidential victory margin in the constituency over the last three general elections.
The NDC’s presidential margin over the New Patriotic Party (NPP) increased from 2,890 votes in 2016 to 3,454 votes in 2020, before widening to 5,434 votes in 2024.
In the 2024 presidential election, the NDC’s John Mahama polled 11,393 votes in Nabdam, compared with 5,959 for the NPP’s Mahamudu Bawumia.
The NDC also retained the Nabdam parliamentary seat, with Mark Kurt Nawaane securing 11,192 votes against 6,680 for the NPP candidate.
Lead organiser of the mobilisation, Abednago Bugrebon, said the decision to support Mr Zure was based on what the group considers his record of grassroots organisation and contribution to strengthening the party’s structures.
He said the polling station executives believe Mr Zure has demonstrated the ability to mobilise members and help maintain the NDC’s electoral advantage in the constituency.
Receiving the nomination form, Mr Zure thanked the youth organisers and polling station executives for supporting his bid for another term.
He pledged to build on the party’s electoral performance and set a more ambitious target for the 2028 general elections.
Mr Zure said the NDC would work towards leaving the NPP with “no voting figures” in Nabdam in 2028.
