Two website quotations can look similar while covering very different work. One may include content preparation, business email and ongoing support. Another may cover only the initial design.
For businesses comparing website development in Ghana, the useful question is not simply which quotation is cheapest. It is whether the proposed website will do the job, who will control it and what it will cost to keep running.
Before accepting a quotation, ask these seven questions and get the answers in writing.
1. What exactly will the website include?
Ask for a clear list of pages and features. A five-page company website is different from an online shop, booking system or customer portal, even if each quotation calls the result a “professional website”.
Describe what a visitor should be able to do: request a quotation, find your location, make an enquiry or place an order. Confirm whether those actions are included and who will test them.
A useful quotation also states what is excluded. Additional languages, product entry, photography and payment integration should not be left to assumptions.
2. Who will control the domain, hosting and website?
Your domain account, hosting account and website administrator login may be separate. Ask who registers the domain, who holds each account and how the business gets access.
Agree what happens if you change suppliers. Confirm the handover process, any transfer charges and what files or data you can receive. Discuss ownership and licensing of the design, content, software and images rather than assuming one payment gives unrestricted rights to everything.
3. Will it work properly on a phone?
For web design in Ghana, a desktop mock-up is only part of the review. Ask to see the proposed pages on an ordinary phone before approving the finished website.
Check that text is readable, menus are easy to use and buttons are not crowded together. Try the enquiry form, telephone link and any WhatsApp link. A layout can look attractive while making the main customer action difficult.
4. Who will supply the words and images?
Confirm whether the developer will write the content, edit material you provide or upload it unchanged. Agree who checks business names, service details, opening hours and contact information.
Use photographs and illustrations the business owns or has permission to publish. Images found through a search engine are not automatically free to reuse. Ask how many rounds of text and design changes the quotation includes, and when you must supply materials.
5. What does “SEO included” actually mean?
Search engine optimisation can refer to a basic website setup or a continuing programme of content and improvement. Ask which tasks are included: useful page titles, clear headings, descriptive image text, working internal links and checks that intended public pages can be indexed.
These foundations do not guarantee a particular search position. If ongoing SEO is offered, request a separate scope explaining the work, reporting and costs. Avoid making a purchasing decision on a promise of an automatic number-one ranking.
6. Which costs will return after launch?
When comparing website development costs in Ghana, separate the initial build from recurring charges. Ask about domain renewal, hosting, maintenance, paid plugins, email services and any transaction-related charges.
Record the billing currency and renewal dates. Confirm what happens when a paid software licence expires and whether security updates or backups are included. A low initial quotation may still involve services that must be renewed separately.
7. What happens at handover and afterwards?
Agree a realistic timetable with responsibilities for both sides. Ask who handles updates, how support requests are submitted and whether training is included.
Before final acceptance, test forms and confirm that messages reach the intended inbox. Check contact details, links and key pages. Obtain the agreed account access and a record of the services and renewal responsibilities.

The best quotation to compare is one you can understand. Clear scope and clear responsibilities give a business a stronger basis for choosing a developer than price alone.
