Supt. Rtd. Peter Lanchene Toobu former Secretary to the Inspector General of Police (IGP) and current Member of Parliament for Wa West has warned of the many security challenges that could arise because of the rampant rise in the prices of fuel and other petroleum products on the Ghanaian market.

He said should the prices of fuel continue to rise unchecked, there will be a subsequent increase in transport fares. He said the increased transport fares will then cascade into a myriad of other challenges including an increase in the prices of food and food products across the country.

Fuel is being sold at ghc7.990 by some Oil Marketing Companies across the country. Prices are expected to cross the dreaded ghc8 before the close of March, 2022.

“The food that used to be coming from Bolgatanga will no longer come because the farmer feels I cannot get enough. So there will be there be a shortage of food, people will also not be moving, and people will not want to travel again,” he said.

The MP, speaking on A1 Radio’s Day Break Upper East, warned that “there will be chaos”.
