A former Interior Minister and Member of Parliament (MP) for Navrongo Central Mark Owen Woyongo, has announced his retirement from politics and disclosed that he will not be contesting any political position again.

He revealed that he was in the first instance not interested in contesting the Navrongo Central seat on the ticket of the party in 2016, but was pressured by the party to do so while they groomed someone to succeed him.

“I did not want to contest the seat again in the first place this year but there was pressure on me from the party. That is how come I contested but as fate will have it, I lost”, he said.

According to the outgoing legislator on the Ultimate Breakfast Show hosted by Lantam Papanko, he is leaving the scene proud of his achievements which will better the lives of the residents of Navrongo Central after constructing 142 boreholes, roads and a number of schools.

“I feel proud about my achievements but it is not for me to rate myself but the people I represented who benefited from the various projects I embarked on”, he emphasized.

On the future, he said he will go back to manage his Tamale-based radio station [Diamond Fm].

Defeated lawmaker for Navrongo Central in the Upper East Region, Mark Owen Woyongo says it not strange losing the seat though he least expected to have been defeated in that manner.

According to him, there is no strange feeling losing the seat since this is not the first time he has contested an election on the ticket of the party and lost in the same constituency.

He states that the defeat was not expected considering what he had done in the area under his tenure blaming it on the delays in the release of feeding grants to second cycle institutions leading to intermittent closure of schools.

“My area is full of educational institutions and this is one of the reasons that caused my defeat. During my campaigns, everywhere I went the people complained about it and nothing was being done to improve the situation”, he disclosed on the Ultimate Breakfast Show hosted by Lantam Papanko.

The Former interior minister also stated that the introduction of certain policies by government including the scrapping of teacher and nursing allowances worked against his candidature coupled with the astronomical increase in electricity and water tariffs.

“As I said earlier, there were a combination factors including the lack of jobs for the teeming youth, the failure and complacency of some party executives to work because they felt we had done much and there was no need to stress themselves and government policies affected my fortunes”, he added.

Customers of defunct DKM Diamond Microfinance have left their various polling stations to check their names at the offices of the Microfinance, A1 Radio’s Kwabena Bruce reports.

According to him, the official liquidated released names of investors yesterday and has warned that failure of customers to check their names and prompt them on mistakes meant that they will be losing their locked up investment.

kwabena Bruce reports that some customers he spoke to said they will rather chase their monies that join long queues to vote for people they don’t stand to get anything from.

On the other hand, some customers according to Kwabena Bruce said they had already joined the queue to vote but left to chase their money and will go back to vote after they had found their names.

Turnout at most of the polling stations including ZamsTech have been encouraging and it is expected that electorates will turn-up in their numbers to vote.
