Fall Army Worm Invasion: Bawku hardest hit in Upper East region

Plant Protection and Regulatory Services Officer of the Upper East regional office of the Ministry of Agriculture has disclosed to A1 Radio that as of August 21, 2017 a total of 11,711.38 hectares of farms in all the 13 Municipal and District Assemblies in the Upper East Region had been affected by the distraction of the fall armyworms.

He added that 11,017.8 hectares of maize were affected; making maize the most affected crop followed by 690.3 hectares of sorghum, 076 hectares of millet  and 2.52 hectares of rice.

Mr. Patrick Yensingit also disclosed that Bawku Municipal assembly was the hardest hit with 2,500 hectares been affected.

He disclosed that MOFA has so far received and distributed 7,000 litres of liquid chemicals and 508 kg of powder chemicals for the fight against the pets.
