Police in the Bolgatanga East District in the Upper East Region are still holding two young men who have been accused as being involved in the kidnapping of a 7 year old boy on Sunday, June 16, 2019.
The two men whose names have been withheld due to on-going investigation are said to be below 30 years and are residents of the Kumbusco Electoral Area in the Zuarungu community.

According to the Assembly member of the area, Thomas Nyaba the 7 year boy was playing with his friends and strayed off to a nearby bush, where the two suspects allegedly kidnapped him. They tied him up and covered his mouth with cellophane tape and dumped him in the bush and left, probably to return later to execute their intention.

Another child who was also playing with friends strayed into the same bush to defaecate and saw his friend ( the 7 year old boy ) laying helplessly. He run home and reported the incident and some young men followed up and rescued the boy.

When the boy was interrogated, his description of the perpetrators led to the two young men and the two were reported to the Zuarungu Police leading to their arrest.

The Upper East Regional Commander of the Ghana Police Service, DCOP Ampofo Doku confirmed the incident and said the Police were still holding the two suspects in Police custody and will soon be arraigned before court.

He has advised parents in the area and the region in general to be careful with the movement of their children and sensitize them on how to react towards strangers.

DCOP Ampofo Doku assured that the Police at the regional and district levels are alert and ready to combat crime and protect lives and properties of both Ghanaians and foreigners.
