The Deputy Communications Officer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Navrongo Central Constituency, Alhassan Abubakari Suwaidu, has criticised demonstrations by New Patriotic Party (NPP) supporters over the arrest of Dennis Miracles Aboagye, describing them as politically motivated.
Speaking on Day Break Upper East on A1 Radio on Tuesday, July 14, 2026, Suwaidu alleged that some participants in the protests were mobilised without fully understanding the issues surrounding the case.
“Yesterday, when your people went there to demonstrate, some of them admitted they had been promised money and food. Some did not even know why they were protesting,” he said.
He claimed similar situations occurred during demonstrations organised by NPP supporters following the arrest of Ashanti Regional Chairman Bernard Antwi-Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi.
“This is not the first time. During the Wontumi demonstration, some participants could not explain what they were demonstrating about. These are hired crowds,” he alleged.
Suwaidu argued that ongoing investigations should be allowed to proceed without political interference, insisting that allegations of persecution should not replace due process.
“The NPP’s posture makes them look ridiculous. Instead of allowing the law to take its course, they seek to create the impression that every investigation involving their members is political persecution,” he said.
He maintained that the courts and established legal processes should determine the outcome of the case.
“This country belongs to all of us. The law must be allowed to work,” he added.
Dennis Miracles Aboagye, Director of Communications for Dr Mahamudu Bawumia’s 2028 presidential campaign team, was arrested by the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) as part of investigations into alleged financial and procurement irregularities. His arrest has triggered political debate, with the NPP accusing the government of political targeting, while authorities maintain that investigations are being conducted within the law.
