Speaking to the media during a visit to the selected communities,Zonal Coordinator for Northern Development Authority, Robert Alagsikomah explained that the projects were strategically identified after needs assessment exercises were carried out by the Poverty Eradication Programme (IPEP) Team in the region.

He said the needs assessment was conducted in order to know basic infrastructure communities need. It was an initiative to move away from the imposition of projects from the central point which end up not being used because of lack of priorities assessment.

“It was a bottom-up approach done by the regional team of the Infrastructure for through the instructions from the Ministry of Special Development Initiatives to look at the pressing needs of people in societies”, he said.

MR. Alagiskomah, indicated that the Bolgatanga Municipal Assembly has been able to get the highest allocation 16 projects due to the critical roles played by some individuals like Rex Asanga who is a community developer and has been on the forefront of development in the region.

“Under constructional projects; 20 boreholes will be given to some selected communities, three Chips compounds to different communities whiles the supply projects which are four will be focused on furniture supplies to various schools within the Municipality”, he added.

The Northern Development Authority(NDA) was set up by an Act of Parliament, Act 963, 2017 to provide financial resources and private and public investments for the acceleration of economic and social development.

On his part ,Rex Asanga who led the Infrastructure for Poverty Eradication Programme Team in Upper East Region asserted that completion of the projects will stimulate growth in the region and also address pressing needs of the people.

“I know with these 16 projects if adequately executed it will meet their needs because it was the community people who pointed out those projects”, he added.

MR. Asanga who is the NPP Parliament candidate for Bolgatanga Central constituency, however, assured the community members of more projects as the current government was voted as a “problem solver”.

“It is in the heart of the NPP government to see to the needs of the Ghanaian people and we in the Upper East Region, individually, we will play our part to make sure our brothers and sisters in the rural areas get what deems them”, he stressed.
