Deprived women in Nabdam earn GHc 400.00 as monthly stipend

Vulnerable women in the Nabdam District of the Upper East Region say, since the inception of the district in 2012, they have never had massive empowerment to sustain their livelihood from local authorities .

According to them, aside household activities, alternative means of livelihood has been a major challenge thereby making them exposed to both socials and economic pressure.

They lamented of how it has been difficult to feed their families with no any source of income and this has affected them and the wellbeing of their children.

Though there have been social intervention introduced by central government and non-governmental organizations m, the impact has not not been widely satisfactory which stakeholders have always proposed strategic avenues to alleviate poverty if not eradicate in rural communities.

However District Chief Executive for Nabdam,Agness Anamoo has been able to identify avenues to rope vulnerable women in that area to earn a livelihood.

The DCE has lobbied a quota and enlisted more women into the afforestation initiative under the Forestry commission to grow and protect the environment especially economic tress earns them a monthly stipend of Ghc 400.00.

Gifty Yinapo, a housewife told A1 News that “I was virtually having nothing doing in the community, if not to cook for my children and husband but through the support of the DCE, I’m now a beneficiary of afforestation initiative which I received monthly pay of GHc 400.”

Yinpobil Zure a beneficiary of the Afforestation project also added that her enrollment into the program has helped her family.

“What to eat daily was a problem for my family but now we eat what we want”, she added.

A businesswoman, Selina Kolgo said, “The DCE has helped me to acquire some loan to expand my business. Aren’t been her kind support, I wouldn’t have had the opportunity to build my own store.”

Speaking to the DCE, Agnes Namoo, she explained that one of the reasons she focused extensively on women was because they contribute 70 to 90 percent in the family activities hence, needed more empowerment to be able to take care of their children.

“I’m a woman and know how women in the district are faring. I can’t say I will see to all their needs but I will make sure that what is due them, they will have it”, she stated.

She added that her assumption of office as a DCE, one of her core objective was to empower as many women as she can in the District.

“Though I have helped closed to 80 percent of women with varieties of jobs, the focus is to empower every mother in the district to have a trader of her choice”, she said.
