Over 200 structures including schools and market have been destroyed by rainstorms in the Bongo District of Upper East Region.
This disastrous incident occurred late Tuesday morning following a downpour in the region. The worst affected community is Soe-Awukubisi in the Bongo District.
Confirming the incident to A1 News,Assembly Member for Soe-Awukubisi Electoral area, Awuure Daniel said “Over 200 houses and structures have been destroyed by the rainstorm yesterday including portions of structures at the Soe new market”.
He added that “stores have also been destroyed.
According to him, many residents have been rendered homeless which authorities will have to move in swiftly to get affected families temporary structures.
But Bongo District Coordinator the National Disaster Management Organization(NADMO) Clement Akongo said his Team has moved to the affected areas to asses the level of devastation caused. He assured that once, the report captures the situation on the ground, adequate interventions will be made.
