Members of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Builsa South District of the Upper East Region, are demanding an immediate resignation of the District Chief Executive (DCE) for the area, Daniel Kwame Gariba, over what they say is his failure to deliver on his mandate to serve the interest of the people.

Mr. Gariba, who is also the Parliamentary Candidate of the New Patriotic Party, is reported to have refused approving requests made by the Incumbent Member of Parliament (MP), Dr. Clement Apaak, to use part of his Common Fund to drill boreholes for the constituents.

In a press release, NDC’s Communication Officer for Builsa South Constituency, Anthony Asikisimi, said the DCE has failed to demonstrate good leadership.

“We wish to call on the DCE/NPP parliamentary for Builsa South to demonstrate good leadership as a DCE by approving the letter sent to him, which was duly received by his secretary on the 8th of September, 2020. Without equivocation, the Secretariat of DCE and key members in the assembly acknowledged that they have received the letter.

For reasons best known to the DCE, the letter has not been approved for the drilling of the boreholes to commence despite appeals by people who work closely with him.”

He continued that “The latest update from the District indicated that the MP has about ₵500,000 in his common fund, but the DCE in his bit to sabotage the MP is unduly delaying in approving the money to be used to execute projects in the MP’s action plan.”

According to him, “The DCE puts his political interest ahead of the well being of the same electorate he is seeking their mandate to represent in parliament. It is sheer wickedness to deny the people of potable water by blatantly refusing to approve for the monies to be withdrawn for such purpose.”

“We are calling on the good people of Builsa South to pay him back in his coin. One good turn deserves another. The reverse is equally true, one bad turn deserves another. The DCE does not have the people at heart. All he cares about is his political career. In his bit to sabotage the MP, he is depriving the constituents of development.” He added.

Meanwhile, at the time of filing this report, several attempts made to get the DCE to speak to the issue proved futile.
