MAHAMA’S RECORD IN THE NORTH IS FLYING GUINEA FOWLS – BAWUMIA JABS

The Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has said apart from the failed projects under the then Savannah Accelerated Development Authority (SADA), Former President, John Dramani Mahama cannot boast to have successfully executed a project in Northern Ghana during his tenure as president and Vice President.

The erstwhile National Democratic Congress (NDC) regime instituted the SADA initiative with the aim of bridging the developmental gap between the North and the South.

SADA at the time had projects including guinea fowl rearing for the Savannah ecological zones which aimed at stimulating growth and addressing human and social development needs.

But Dr. Bawumia has lashed out Former President Mahama that the later cannot tout a single successful project in the Upper East Region and the whole of the North and therefore, he is not competent enough to be given another opportunity to manage the affairs of the country.

“What exactly did John Mahama do for the Upper East Region and the whole of the North. What legacy did John Mahama leave behind in the Upper East Region and the whole of the North after the 8-years. The signature development project for the Northern Regions was SADA. What are the projects that SADA left behind?” Dr. Bawumia questioned.

According to the Vice President, it was expected that Mr. Mahama who is a northerner, would have facilitated the development of the North through the SADA projects. Rather, he stated that, Mr. Mahama failed woefully by superintending over the SADA initiative which saw guinea fowls flying from Ghana to Burkina Faso.

“After $100 million [spent], where are the projects? Of course, we know about the guinea fowls that flew to Burkina Faso. They did not do any project; they spent the money. You have money to come and help your people to eliminate the poverty of your people and you engaged in projects of guinea fowls flying to Burkina Faso. That is not development. Is this the same John Mahama who says he want to come back to be president of this country after such a poor record of development of the Upper East region? He is a monumental failure”, Dr. Bawumia jabbed.

Speaking further on the development of Northern Ghana, the NPP running mate added that the Nana-Addo led government is investing massively in the north; contrary to wide spread allegations that the NPP is a party that careless about the people of the North.

He said “Don’t let anybody try and come to do propaganda that NPP is a ‘Kambonga’ [Akan] party. We’ve voted for them [NDC] for 28-years and they didn’t do anything. The Pwalugu Dam project is the biggest investment in infrastructure in Northern Ghana since Independence. In John Mahama’s 8-years, not one road was completed in the whole of the Upper East region.”

The Vice president made these comments at Mirigu in the Kassena-Nankana West district while addressing chiefs and people as part of his 3-day campaign tour in the Upper East region.
