Dr. Mahamud Bawumia, the Vice President of Ghana, stated that he is the only presidential candidate whom John Dramani Mahama, the National Democratic Congress’ flag bearer, fears in the upcoming 2024 general elections.

According to Dr. Bawumia, who is vying to lead the NPP, everyone in the NDC, including former President John Mahama, consistently attacks him because they know he is the only one who can beat Mahama in the 2024 general elections.

Addressing party delegates in Bolgatanga, the NPP presidential hopeful pleaded with delegates to vote for him in the November 4 presidential primaries to lead the NPP and break the 8-year cycle in government.

He said, “We are going for a presidential election in 2024. There are four people contesting. Among the four of us, I am the only one with experience in Ghanaian presidential elections. I have been a running mate in 2008, 2012, 2016, and 2020. I know the ground. I have campaigned in presidential elections for the last 15 years. Not only do I have the experience, but I also have the winning experience. We need somebody who knows how to win an election. In addition to this winning experience is the issue of who our opponent will bring in 2024. Who is the NDC bringing? John Mahama? When they brought him in 2016, didn’t we beat him? Then they brought him back in 2020, and we beat him again. So if they are bringing him back in 2024, who do you think can beat John Mahama? So on November 4, I’m just asking you, give John Mahama to me, and I will beat him for you.”

Dr. Bawumia questioned members of the opposition National Democratic Congress why his name gives them sleepless nights. He said, “There are four of us contesting. Among the four of us, it is me that the NDC fears the most. The rest of the contestants, the NDC doesn’t mind at all. They don’t insult them, they don’t lie about them, they don’t do propaganda about them, but when they wake up in the morning, it’s Bawumia; in the afternoon, it’s Bawumia; at night, it’s Bawumia. Why does Bawumia give them so much headache?”

The Vice President, who is contesting the NPP flagbearership race to lead the party, concluded his campaign in the Upper East Region, propagating his message to the delegates, urging them to consider voting for him to lead the NPP in the 2024 presidential election.

The grand rally had delegates from all 16 constituencies in the region, the Ashanti regional chairman, Northern, North Savannah, and other regional ministers, the Upper East Region minister, some members of Parliament, all District Chief Executives from the Upper East Region, CEOs of some State-Owned Enterprises, and NPP Parliamentary Candidate hopefuls from the 16 constituencies in the Upper East region, along with other notable party members.

The New Patriotic Party has set November 4, 2023, to elect its flag bearer for the 2024 presidential elections, following a super delegates’ election on August 26, 2023, which narrowed down the aspirants from 10 to 5.
