Deputy Communication Officer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Upper East Region, Johnson Ayine, has stated that despite the numerous social and infrastructural interventions introduced by the ruling NPP government, beneficiaries of the policies, particularly in the Upper East Region voted against the party in the just ended elections.

Speaking on A1 Radio, he asserted that the people of the region fell for what he described as propaganda from the National Democratic Congress (NDC) over the developmental interventions and policies by his government which were meant to benefit them.

As an example, Mr. Ayine said “had it not been the introduction of Free Senior High policy and the Double Track system, only 2 students at Apasenaba JHS {a Junior High School at sirigu community in the Bolgatanga Municipality} would have gone to senior high school. But almost all of them have gone through.”

“So I will say that in the Upper East Region, the NABCO employees didn’t support us. Those who were employed under the GES Limited Recruitment didn’t support us. The nurses that we have employed didn’t support us.”

To buttress his assertion, Mr. Ayine further cited a situation in Gambibgo, a community in the Bolgatanga East Constituency, where according to him, “the District Chief Executive (DCE) for the area, together with some members of NPP, extended electricity to the community in the year 2019; yet they voted against the party,” in the just ended election.

“Our people don’t vote based on development. That is what I’ve seen.” He emphasized.
