Gov’t manipulated election results to get majority in parliament – John Mahama

The Former President, John Dramani Mahama insists that government has a hand in the NDC losing out on becoming majority in the current Parliament.

He alleged that government manipulated the results to suit it’s agenda.

According to Mr. Mahama, the NDC would have had a clear Majority if the votes were fairly collated in a number of constituencies.

While Mr Mahama didn’t specifically mention the constituencies in which he alleged results were manipulated, he mentioned that government used it resources and security to disrupt and manipulate the results in favour of the NPP.

Speaking to some Traditional Rulers in the Upper West Region as part of his Thank You Your of the region he mentioned that the support from the region was immense and that was something he was grateful for.

“It has been a very impressive performance, nationally, we increased our votes a little over 4 million to almost 6.3 million votes in the 2020 elections. And your vote from the Upper West Region contributed to this impressive performance.

“We increased our seats from 106 to 137 seats and we brought the NPP from 169 to 137. But for the arm-twisting that they twisted against us in some constituencies, we would have had the clean Majority in Parliament,” he said.

The former President was, however, hopeful that with the 8th Parliament being a hung one, it will serve as a check on the Akufo-Addo government.

“As we speak, there is no Majority, there is no Minority. This is a good outcome for the people of Ghana, because it takes the impunity that normally the ruling party has when it has an overwhelming Majority in Parliament.

“In the first term, when the NPP had 169 seats in Parliament, they just railroaded everything through Parliament without consideration. But now, it is not possible for them to do that because they have the same number of seats the NDC has.” he stated.
