Editor in Chief of the New Crusading Guide newspaper Abdul Malik Kwaku Baako has described utterances made by president of the Ghana Journalist Association on an accident involving the presidential press corps as unfortunate.

Affail Monney came under pressure after he ignored a journalist’s account of events leading to the tragic accident involving several presidential correspondents. His comments have infuriated many journalists with calls for him to apologize or face the wrath of members of the association.

Speaking on News File on Joy FM Saturday, Kwaku Baako said the GJA president could have avoided this acrimony visited on him by declining to comment on the issue because he had not communicated to the executives of the association.

Mr. Baako explained that his checks revealed the GJA president did not visit the flagstaff house purposely to enquire on the issue of the accident but rather to thank the presidency for honoring the just ended 20th awards night of the GJA. This visit according to him offered Affail Monney the opportunity to get some information from the Chief of Staff and that information should have been withheld or rather given to the executives of the GJA.

“The GJA president goofed big time. He could have declined granting the interview” he opined.

He added that Affail Monney must apologize because it is non-negotiable.

Meanwhile regional executives of the Ghana Journalist Association in a press release have called on the association’s president to apologize for his utterance. The statement said “We think it is a shame that the GJA President after a meeting with the presidency, ignored the accounts of his own Napoleon Ato Kittoe, forgetting the African proverb, that he who throws a stone in the market will hit his relative. We therefore demand an immediate apology from Mr Monney to save association from further embarrassment.”
