The CEO of Newly Promoted Division One side Kassena Nankana United, Azanlerigu Mboma is calling for a collective effort from the youth of the Upper East Region to push for the completion of the first phase of the Navrongo Multi-Purpose Stadium for use.

He made this call while speaking on A1 Radio’s Day Break Upper East Show.

Addressing the challenge associated with choosing the Aliu Mahama Sports Stadium as their home ground, Mr. Mboma noted that, it’s going to be expensive and it wouldn’t be easy.

Adding that if the Navrongo Multi-Purpose Stadium isn’t completed in time and opened for use, travelling to Tamale might not happen.

“Honestly, travelling to Tamale to play our home matches will not be easy. It’s not going to be easy. That’s why we want to use this month and next month to push and see what we, the youth of the Upper East, can do to make sure the first phase of the project is completed for us to play in division one. If not, travelling to Tamale, I am not seeing it happening.”

The CEO in furthering his call on the youth to support the push for the completion of the stadium affirmed that if the region does not get the promoted side to play their home matches in the region, then the game will surely die.

“I think this year if we are not able to push for a team to play its home matches in the Upper East here, then the game will surely die.”

The stadium which is a 5,000 seating capacity stadium when completed will be the largest sports facility in the region.

Fc Tanga withdrew from the division 2016/2017 division one league due to a lack of home venue. In a similar vein, Bolga All Stars were relegated from the national premier league in 2017 having adopted the Tamale sports stadium as their home ground. All Stars returned to the first division this year but have been unfortunately relegated with a game to spare due to the same problem.

This, Mr. Mboma fears if the youth and all concerned citizens in the region do not stand up and champion the development of the region, football in the region will continue to suffer. He is thus calling on appropriate authorities to try their best to endure the project is completed.

Kassena Nankana United finished first in zone two; a zone comprising Paga Afini Stars, Wiaga United, Paga Crocodile Stars, Paga FC and Navrongo Mission Warriors. The club proceeded to beat Walewale Catholic Stars two goals to one(2-1), they recorded a convincing 3-1 win over Sheaga Stars before Qdrubbing Samba Stars by four goals to nil(4-0).

Mr. Mboma is full of optimism that if the stadium is completed before the commencement of the new season, Kasena Nankana United can bring premier league football to the region thereby creating an economic boom.

The club was established in 2018 to serve as a unifier to the people of Navrongo. Paramount Chief of the Navrongo traditional area, Pe Denis Balinia Adda Asagpaare II, is Patrick of the club.

The 2022/2023 edition of the national division one league starts in September.
