Following the demonstration on 18 August 2022 in Accra, members of the Nabco Trainees Association of Ghana have given the President, NanaAkufo-Addo, and relevant stakeholders a week’s ultimatum to respond to their grievance.

They said if the president fails to respond, before 26th August 2022, they will picket at the Jubilee House to show their frustrations.

Dennis Opoku Aseidu, President of the Association poured out the frustration of the trainees in a statement copied to this website.

But speaking on the Day Break Upper East Show, Andrew Atariwini, a member of the NPP’s Upper East Regional Communication Team has asked the trainees to exercise some level of patience as the government is committed to paying the stated arrears.

“Government is committed to making payment. They have been there for 3 years and in all these 3 years, they have been paid. Sometimes some of the payments delay and become accumulated but they are paid.”

While admitting that the current delays are unusual, Mr. Atariwini said “I cannot tell what is the snag impeding the payment process but if you look at the Ministry of Finance’s letter that was issued to talk about the ending of this programme, the commitment of government was clear and emphatic.”

Mr. Atariwini encouraged the trainees to first show gratitude to the government for the temporary jobs that they were given and be patient as the government would make full payments.

“I would encourage the trainees to, first of all, show some appreciation to the government for the thoughtfulness to make sure that it engaged them. Number 2, [they] should thank the government for giving them an opportunity to build their own capacity. Now, you do not go anywhere or apply to an institution and they will ask you for years of experience.”
