As of May 10, 2023, the Northern Electricity Distribution Company (NEDCo) and the Volta River Authority (VRA), had retrieved from defaulting customers more than Ghc7,000,000. Over the past month, NEDCo/VRA has been undertaking a revenue mobilisation and distribution exercise.

When the Upper East Regional Revenue Protection and Billing Officer, William Asare, spoke to A1 Radio’s Mark Smith on the Day Break Upper East Show recently, he explained that NEDCo/VRA would not rest until all monies owed the company were paid.

Additionally, terms have been arranged with some facilities to ensure that their debts are paid in full.

“The good thing is that we have had a number of agreements with a number of facilities and customers where we wouldn’t get to them accumulating to this amount. A number of facilities have entered into agreements with us where they will be paying the current bill and committing some amounts towards the old amount. That, for us, is really good. That would prevent us from getting to a place where the institutions are owing so much that even paying the outstanding bill is difficult.

Mr. Asare explained that for defaulters who were disconnected and have made payments, they have been reconnected to the national grid.

The Presby Eye Clinic in Yorogo, a suburb of Bolgatanga, has been reconnected after its disconnection, Mr. Asare explained.
