Residents of Chuchuliga in the Builsa North district in the Upper East region have expressed gratefulness to the Anglican Diocesan Development and Relief Organization, ADDRO for the health interventions being made in the area by the organization.

ADDRO, A Non-Governmental Organization operating in the upper east region and seeking to among other things give healthy lives to every person irrespective of their political, religious and ethnic background.

The residents who poured on the main street of the town were marking the World Malaria Day in a float to create the awareness of people on malaria and its effects. Since 2008, the global community comes together to commemorate World Malaria Day on April 25. World Malaria Day was established by World Health Organization Member States as an occasion to highlight the need for continued investment and sustained political commitment for malaria prevention and control. World Malaria Day is a chance to shine a spotlight on the global effort to control malaria.

The occasion was organized by ADDRO which is making humanitarian interventions in the Builsa North district. Speaking exclusively to A1 News during the float, some residents said before the interventions by ADDRO, they used to suffer to attain immediate health care due to the distance to the health clinic from some homes. But since the interventions, they now receive health care close to them by the Community-Based Agents who were trained by ADDRO in collaboration with Ghana Health Service and supply fuel to the Ghana Health Service personnel to supervise the activities of the CBAs. The CBAs as they are known in the communities were given basic training in testing and treating malaria, cholera and diarrhea.

Right Reverend Jacob Ayeebo, Executive Director of ADDRO and Bishop for the three regions in the north told A1 News in an exclusive interview that as a humanitarian organization which seeks to make life better for everybody, ADDRO provides basic drugs for the treatment of these diseases by the CBAs and supports them with bicycles and regular maintenance to enable them carry out their explicit task.

Right Reverend Ayeebo said his outfit which currently works in 6 regions and 15 districts nationwide make interventions in water and sanitation, health, food security and micro credit for men and women to enable them engage in economic activities so that they can cater for their children so as to transform their lives.

“In the Upper East region we work in 5 districts and 2 each in the Upper West, Northern, Western, Eastern and the Ashanti regions. ADDRO’s mandate comes from John 10:10 where Jesus Christ said I have come to give you abundant lives, and you can achieve the abundant lives which Jesus Christ preached, “Right Reverend Ayeebo added.

He called on the media to make space on their platforms to educate the public on health issues in order to create much awareness on things that bother their daily lives.

“As media people you have an important role to play in educating the people because most people now have radio sets. You are already playing your role but if you can create time for health issues to be discussed it will help or if you make your radio stations affordable for humanitarian organizations, you will be contributing to ensuring that some of these community challenges could be reduced. You can contribute massively to transforming lives if you make your stations more affordable for people to sensitize the communities on some of the things that are affecting us,” he noted.
