The parliamentary candidate on the ticket of the opposition National Democratic Congress in the Chiana-Paga constituency, Nikyema Billa Alamzy, has accused the governing New Patriotic Party of inflating the cost of contracts being executed in his constituency.

Speaking on the Daybreak Upper East show, he cited the Paga truck park reconstructed by the Ghana Ports and Harbors Authority as one of the projects.

He said, “The current politicians that we have, if we decide to go that direction, we will not go anywhere, and we will suffer. Something that costs GH¢2, we inflate by more than a thousand percent in the name of ‘Jobs for the boys.’ I want to tell you this; after that, do your own investigations. Go to the border, the park that is not more than 600 meters by 600 meters, the ground [paving the ground] alone is costing GH¢18.5 million. When they finished, they decided to wall the place and put up toilet facilities. With that, the information I got is that the total sum of the project went up to GH¢25 million. I know that if it were a personal project, it wouldn’t be more than GH¢3 million.

“Secondly, the road expansion they are doing, per my information, costs GH¢7 million. Go and check; it’s something that will not even be up to GH¢1 million. That is the problem I have with them [NPP].”
