Rockybell Adatura, the Peacemaker, says young people must be conscious of the role they can play in peacebuilding and conflict resolution. Mr. Adatura stressed that each individual is responsible for promoting peace within the places in which they find themselves.

He emphasized that it is always important to be calm when approaching situations. He said these things in an interview on A1 Radio, centered around the theme of “Youth Skills for Peace and Development.”

Throughout the discussion, Mr. Adatura addressed the pervasive issue of conflicts, highlighting the challenge societies face in effectively navigating them.

He underscored the principle of treating others as one wishes to be treated, emphasizing that mutual respect and understanding are foundational to fostering harmonious relationships. Mr. Adatura argued against coercion, asserting that true influence stems from empathy and genuine connection rather than forceful imposition. “You cannot make someone listen to you when you attack them,” he stated.

He shared stories from his personal life experiences, aimed at imparting moral lessons and motivating young people. He spoke about the importance of persistence and hard work in achieving personal and communal goals. Encouraging youth to embrace change and believe in their potential, he highlighted the power of mindset and determination in overcoming different situations. “When you process something in your mind and you believe, you can make it,” he said.

In 2014, the United Nations General Assembly declared 15 July as World Youth Skills Day, to celebrate the strategic importance of equipping young people with skills for employment, decent work, and entrepreneurship.

The theme for World Youth Skills Day 2024, “Youth Skills for Peace and Development,” underscores the crucial role young people play in peacebuilding and conflict resolution.

According to the UN General Assembly, “the world faces a multitude of challenges today, many of which affect the youth. Violent conflicts disrupting education and stability, a polarized online environment fostering negativity, and persistent economic inequality limit opportunities. These issues threaten not only individual futures but also the overall stability of societies. It is crucial to equip youth with the necessary skills for fostering a culture of peace, nurturing responsible global citizens, and promoting sustainable development to build a more just, inclusive, and sustainable future for all.”
