Renowned songwriter and singer Stevo Atambire has returned to Ghana with a renewed commitment to transform and reinvent indigenous Kologo music on the global stage.
After a successful European tour, Stevo expressed his dedication to elevating this traditional music genre, encouraging up-and-coming musicians to work hard and continuously improve their craft.
In an interview on A1 Radio, Stevo shared insights from his tour and his vision for the future of Kologo music.
“The Euro tour was an eye-opener and a significant milestone in my career. The reception was overwhelming, and it showed me that there’s a huge potential for our traditional music on the global scene.”
Stevo emphasized that language should not be a barrier for musicians aspiring to reach international audiences.
“Don’t worry about the language. Focus on creating good music. If the music is good, people will jam to it regardless of the language. Music is a universal language, and the emotions it evokes transcend linguistic barriers.”
He also called on emerging musicians to invest in their skills and remain dedicated to their passion.
“It’s important to work hard and keep improving your craft,” Stevo stressed.
He added, “There are no shortcuts to success. Dedication, persistence, and continuous learning are key. Always strive to be better than you were yesterday.”
The tour included performances in several major European cities, where he introduced audiences to the rich sounds of Kologo music. His unique blend of traditional rhythms and contemporary influences captivated diverse audiences, earning him acclaim and new fans.
Reflecting on his journey, Stevo highlighted the importance of staying true to one’s roots while being open to innovation.
“Our culture and traditions are our identity. It’s crucial to preserve them while finding innovative ways to present them to the world. Kologo music has a rich history and unique sound. By blending it with modern elements, we can create something fresh and exciting that resonates with people globally.”
He further indicated that he aims to create opportunities for young artists to showcase their talent and gain exposure.
“I want to use my platform to support and mentor young musicians. There is so much talent out there, and with the right guidance and opportunities, they can achieve great things.”
He also hinted at future projects, including collaborations with international artists and plans for more tours.
“This is just the beginning. There are many exciting projects in the pipeline. I can’t wait to share more of our beautiful music with the world.”
