The District Chief Executive (DCE) for Builsa South, Daniel Kwame Gariba, has launched an initiative aimed at equipping young people with the skills necessary to secure sustainable livelihoods.

Through this programme, 120 young people who have completed Senior High School (SHS) and Junior High School (JHS) but lack the resources to further their education or enroll in vocational training have been selected to benefit from fully funded skills training.

The tools and equipment required for their training, valued at thousands of cedis, were provided during a ceremony that also introduced the beneficiaries to their respective instructors.

Speaking at the event, the DCE, who also serves as the Parliamentary Candidate for the area under the New Patriotic Party (NPP), highlighted the importance of addressing youth unemployment.

“One of the pressing issues confronting the youth today is unemployment. Many young people complete SHS and JHS without the resources to engage in skills training,” he stated. “This well-thought-out initiative aims to equip them with various skills of their choice. Currently, 120 of them, both females and males, have successfully qualified for the first batch.”

The DCE elaborated on the initiative, explaining that each beneficiary would receive at least GH₵3,000.00 to cover the cost of their training.

The Assembly, through the SOCO Phase 1 project, is fully funding the program, which will span two to three years depending on the chosen trade.

In addition to the tools provided, a step-up capital has been allocated to help the beneficiaries establish themselves once their training is completed.

Gariba also revealed that the SOCO project has facilitated the construction of an animal market for local traders.

“The Assembly, through animal traders, has built and completed an animal market for the traders,” he added, emphasizing the broader economic impact of the project on the community.

This initiative not only aims to reduce youth unemployment but also to empower the youth with the skills needed to contribute meaningfully to the local economy, he concluded.
