District Chief Executive for the Nabdam District of the upper east region, Vivian Anafo, has disclosed that ‘dirty’ politics in her district is thwarting her effort in seeing to the development of the district.
“If I want to build a classroom in community A and you think the people will be with me and you thwart my effort then that is worrying. We are in an era where dirty politics is thwarting development. I have a lot of examples but if I give, it would be like I am washing my dirty linen in the public.”
According to her the country has got to an era where development has been thwarted just to suit the selfish desires of some individuals and their political affiliation.
“One canker in Ghana which is worrying is that everything you want to do, because you are in party A, people think it should not happen so that you don’t get the glory for it. It is killing us and it is not helping us at all,” she added.
Madam Anafo was speaking at a Local Government Forum Thursday organized by TEERE, a Non-Governmental Organization in Bolgatanga.
The visibly livid DCE noted that the trend of sabotaging the effort of one party to develop a specific District or community is worrying and a major bane of Ghana’s development and if not checked will go a long way to affect the country.
She underscored the need to play according to the times in differentiating periods to do politics and periods for development saying “let’s develop when time for development and let’s convince people to vote for us when it’s time for politics,” she advised.
The long serving DCE in the upper east region urged individuals present to see development as the key drive of every country adding that the needed development can be achieved through practicing decent politics.
The TEERE Local Government Forum (TLGF) forms part of a series of fora organized by the organization to whip up citizen participation in local governance.
