A member of the National Democratic Congress’ Communication team in the Upper East Region, Abdallah Salifu Jonathan has attributed the party’s failure to win the 2016 election to the arrogance of some of the officials and appointees of their party.

According to him, most appointees of President Mahama were so arrogant such that they lost touch with the people of their various constituencies and the people of Ghana.

“Some of the President’s appointees were too arrogant. They could not make the message get down to the people. Even their posture on TV and rubbishing whatever other people say contributed to our defeat. The silent majority will turn against you and that is what happened,” Abdallah told Azongo Albert on A1Radio.

He cited an example with the posture and encounter of the party’s Deputy General Secretary, Koku Anyidoho with Richard Dela Sky of Citi Fm saying “i was so sad with his banter with Richard of Citi FM. He was virtually insulting him and that was not supposed to be what he should do.”

Abdallah mentioned that it got to a time in that party that there was no party but just an executive structure because all party issues were now being addressed by government officials.

He said “It got to a point there was no party but just an executive structure. We have voted for a Communication Director so that anytime there was an issue, you call the party’s communicator but that was not the case. Yes i agree that a party in government will have the Minister of Communication but sometimes they should have allowed the Party’s communication team to work. Solomon Nkansah who is the party’s communication head was out of the line and the Communication Minister was doing all the work.”

He noted that there was a total neglect of the party’s grassroot by Members of Parliament citing the constituency of FiiFi Kwettey where someone was sent by the party to the constituency to virtually beg them to vote for him.

“In Fiifi Kwetey’s constituency, the party had to send someone there in the last minutes because they came to the National level and act like they are working whiles back at home, they are not doing anything. When the people call them they don’t pick up and when they go to their houses the security will tell you they are not there but you will be standing there and their car will come and pass by.”

He was however optimistic that the party will regroup and come back strongly.
