An aspirant for the Upper East Regional Chairman position of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Patrick Ayaba, has pledged to address internal divisions within the party, promising to curb gossip, hearsay and factional behaviour if elected.

Speaking on A1 Radio, Mr Ayaba said such practices contributed to the party’s underperformance in the 2024 elections, as they eroded trust and discouraged active participation among members.

“Gossip and hearsay without proper dialogue create mistrust among members, which leads to low participation and commitment,” he said.

“This was evident in the last elections. I will not entertain such behaviour when I lead the party as chairman. My focus will be on building trust, unity and transparency so every member feels valued and can contribute fully to the party’s success.”

Mr Ayaba said his leadership approach would prioritise inclusivity and direct engagement, drawing on his experience in politics.

“I have been in politics for a long time, and I have identified why we have been losing. The party needs to be united and transparent. I want to bring everybody together and ensure that anyone unhappy is heard and addressed,” he said.

He also pledged to resolve disputes at the constituency level, saying he would personally engage party members to ensure their concerns are addressed.

“People should know that I am not working for myself alone, but to ensure that everyone benefits fairly. Contribution must match benefit, and I have plans to deliver on that promise,” he added.

Mr Ayaba further highlighted youth empowerment as a key priority, stressing the need to support entrepreneurship and sustainable livelihoods.

“I want the youth to see an example. Through entrepreneurship training, I can guide them to invest wisely so they can build sustainable livelihoods,” he said.

On his campaign, Mr Ayaba said current efforts are focused on awareness creation and engagement, as the party prepares for its internal electoral processes.

“We are currently engaging members because delegates are not yet finalised and polling stations have not been set up. Our focus is on informing members and addressing concerns ahead of the main campaign,” he said.
