Inarticulate Political Leaders in U/E Region Blame for the Region’s Development Shortcomings-BONABOTO

0

Ministers, Members of Parliament, Municipal and district chief executives from the Upper East region have been criticised for playing a role in the region’s several shortcomings in development.

The Upper East region being a deprived region appears to be the only region in the country with poor road network. Also, the region is the only region in country that has failed to get an ultramodern regional hospital.

This lack of development in the region according to BoNaBoTo, a non-partisan civil society organization comprising of people of Bolgatanga, Nangode, Bongo and Tongo and their environs in the region should be blamed on political leaders of the region for their continues silence which is derailing development in the region.

BoNaBoTo made these remarks during its 10th biennial national delegates congress held in Bolgatanga. The association called on political leaders in the BoNaBoTo area and the region at large to as a matter of importance appraise them of development in the area.

Out-gone national president of the association, Vitus Azeem on behalf of the group therefore called on the incoming government to review all ongoing contracts and re-award contracts that have come to a standstill in the region to capable contractors.

“Besides, and more seriously, various ministers have tendered to award too many contracts to a few individuals because they are party people and close relatives of the powers that be but who end up not delivering because they are have too much on their hands and do not have the capacity to deliver.”

Paramount chief of the Talensi traditional area, Tongraan Kugbilsong-Nanlebetang faulted contractors, some of whom are natives of the region for taking the citizens for granted, hence the defect of development in the region.

“The whole of Tema roads can cover the whole of Upper East roads all together and if you look at Tema roads they are all tarred up. But look at the Bolga, the region, the roads are so poor. It is just the problem of contractors. Some of these contractors take us for granted and I tell you that most of them are our own brothers who don’t want to see our welfare.” Tongraan Kugbilsong-Nanlebetang bemoaned.

The members at the end of the congress which was under the theme “Climate change, agriculture and poverty alleviation in northern Ghana” issued a communiqué calling on the next government to as a matter of priority support the BoNaBoTo catchment area and the region at large with the one village, one dam manifesto promise to mitigate the effects of climate change and improve dry season farming.

Some individuals who performed creditably in various fields of professions were honored during the congress.

Humility, Patience and Hardwork Sums Up The Story of Emmanuel Akayeti

0

For a man who is wealthy and has so much influence, one would have expected a very luxurious and imposing look, but no, that wasn’t the case when Emmanuel Akayeti, founder of Akayet Group of companies Clad in a check long sleeved shirt over simple trousers walked into the studio looking so unsuspecting to take his turn on ‘Personality Profile’ on A1Radio’s DayBreak Upper East.

Like his name Akayeti, he is a man of few words and will rather influence the younger generation to be achievers rather on any day in order to change the world and turn the face of development in the Upper East Region.

Growing up in Bongo in the Upper East Region, Akayeti mentions that although he believed in education and the need for knowledge, he wasn’t that good when it came to academics and therefore had to search himself thoroughly in order to find himself and his capabilities.

Akayeti a member of Fountain Gate Church in Bolgatanga, Emmanuel Akayeti believes that the influence of God should never be overlooked because it is God who favours man and through his help, man survives the storm. He recalls that giving himself to God afforded him the opportunity to discover who he truly was and that has moved him to a higher height.

“I believed in education when I was growing up. I enrolled in school but when I got to Secondary school, I realised I am not fit for schooling. Whiles there, I discovered myself and realised that I am good at business so I ventured into business and it has brought me thus far. I used to go to Lome during vacation and sometimes when school was in session to work.”

There are several theories of starting businesses without capital and that is what Akayeti represents. To him, one does not need capital to start a business but honesty and self-confidence and that is the recipe for success.

“You don’t need money to start a business. All you need to do is to be confident and be honest as an individual. After Secondary school, I started buying gold without any money but my honesty and my self-confidence. It wasn’t easy but people trusted me and the trust they instilled in me also helped me to grow. I moved on from gold buying to accessories and later put up a mining company called Akayet Mining Services which is currently running.”

Another virtue relished by the soft-spoken Emmanuel Akayeti is his patience in approaching everything that he has done in life. He notes that a major key to failure is the lack of patience; something perculiar to the current generation.

“You see, the young people fail because they lack patience. God has a purpose for everybody. Some need to sow for others to reap but some people want to sow and also reap and that is a contributory factor in their to their failure. It takes time to be successful and rushing will make you fall easily.”

From a humble beginning, Emmanuel Akayeti employs over one hundred youthful individuals in the Upper East region in all his businesses and intends to do more to see the Upper East Region develop to a higher pedestel.

Avram Grant, Black Stars coach

Coach of Ghana’s Black Stars, Avram Grant, has said if the country expects a good number of locally based players in the Black Stars squad, there should be a quota system in future.

The Black Stars Coach named his provisional squad for this year’s AFCON to be held in Gabon but only one locally based Ghanaian player made the list and this has got a section of the media and the general public criticizing the coach for the neglect of the locally based players.

But at a Press Conference in Accra, Avram Grant mentioned that he selects Ghanaian players and not players who ply their trade in other countries and expect that there should not be division as to where the players ply their trade but rather see them as Ghanaians.

He acknowledged that talents abound in Ghana’s league adding that he selects players based on quality and their desire to play for their country and not because of the teams they play in Europe and other countries.

Avram Grant indicated that if Ghanaians expect a lot of the local players in the Black Stars team, then it is imperative that going into the future, there should be a quota for every league where Ghanaian players ply their trade.

“If we want players in the local league featured in the Black Stars, then in future we have to set a quota such that we will have five players from the Ghana premier league, six from Europe, five from the USA and a number of players from other leagues.

The Black Stars will be in Dubai for training ahead of this year’s AFCON which will kickstart on January 14 in Gabon.
