The celebration of the Silver Jubilee of the 4th Republic is to the great credit of the Ghanaian people, the ordinary men and women who make up the fabric of the Ghanaian nation. 25 years ago, the Ghanaian people resolved to build, under God, a united nation, grounded in democratic values and the rule of law. We have gone a long way towards realising it, and I am confident that, with a spirit of reconciliation, fairness, integrity and hard work, the best days of Mother Ghana lie ahead of us.
Former President, John Dramani Mahama has said the challenges of the New Patriotic Party is borne out of the fact that the party lied its way into power.
According to the former President, ” for lies, if you tell one, you have to keep telling lies to save yourself. It is said that you can lie to win power but you can’t govern a nation with lies”.
President John Dramni Mahama who was addressing a crowd at the well-attended Unity Walk of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in Techiman said the NPP lied about the DKM saga to paint him and his wife black just because they wanted to win power.
He indicated that regardless of the lies told about regarding the DKM saga, the government is now quiet about it; an indication that they lied to make him look bad in the sight of Ghanaians who were affected by the saga.
He said “When the DKM issue came up, the NPP accused my wife and me of owning that company. So they said when they come into power, they will retrieve the money from us and give it back to those it was taken from. By God’s grace today, they are in now power. I challenge them to investigate the ownership of DKM. If DKM is owned by my wife and me, arrest us but they are now very quiet”.
Thousands of customers of DKM Microfinance Company lost their investments, running into millions of cedis, after the owners of the company invested in unapproved ventures and lost their funds.
The Bank of Ghana subsequently confiscated the assets of the company and appointed the Registrar General’s Department to commence the liquidation process to refund customers of the company in 2016.
The newly elected President of the Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT), Philippa Larsen has vowed to flush out unqualified teachers from the field in order to regain the profession’s lost glory.
According to her, there is the need to flush out unprofessional teachers from the system in order to aid the processes leading up to the certification of qualified teachers in Ghana.
“I want the maximum support and respect for the Ghanaian teacher, so some people who don’t qualify as teachers but have found their way into the profession, we will weed them out,” she said while thanking members of the association after her election as the President of the Teachers Association.
She said: “We will get the right people who are teachers in order to enhance the proper image of the teaching profession, and this will make our certification as professionals smooth”.
Philippa Larsen used the opportunity to call on members of the Association who have left the Association to rejoin the family.
Ghanaians on Sunday gathered at the Black Star Square in Accra to thank God for twenty-five years of practising Democracy as an African Country.
In attendance at the programme were the three living former Presidents and the current President, opposition leaders and members of the governing New Patriotic Party, Ministers and Members of Parliament.
The event was under the theme “Celebrating the goodness of the Lord” was meant to acknowledge the country’s stable democracy over the past two decades.
Former Communications Minister, Omane Boamah has said Ghanaians the hopes Ghanaians had in the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has been dashed.
According to the appointee under the John Dramni Mahama administration, Ghanaians are living the opposite of the life promised them by the NPP in the lead up to the elections that booted the NDC out of power.
In a write-up on Facebook addressing the challenges Ghanaians are facing under the NPP administration, he indicated “that It has been one year full of intrigues from the NPP Government. The hopes of Ghanaians have been dashed”.
He said:”following closely after the inauguration, President Mahama was evicted from his official residence, a place agreed between him and President Akufo-Addo in the presence of Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II to be used as his retiring Home. The eviction is not as disingenuous as the reason cited. Ghanaians were told Vice President Mahamadu Bawumia needed to use the facility as his official residence. Others pointed to a befitting alternative- the Australia House- but the NPP remained adamant. One year on, the residence from which President Mahama was ejected is not occupied by Vice President Bawumia. And the facility is hardly used”.

ONE YEAR OF PRESIDENT AKUFO-ADDO’s GOVERNMENT
A year ago today, President John Dramani Mahama, the democrat, handed over political office to President Nana Akufo-Addo.
It has been one year full of intrigues from the NPP Government. The hopes of Ghanaians have been dashed.
Following closely after the inauguration, President Mahama was evicted from his official residence, a place agreed between him and President Akufo-Addo in the presence of Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II to be used as his retiring Home.
And the facility is hardly used.
One year on, the brouhaha about alleged stolen vehicles by former appointees remains a mirage.
One year on, NPP’s partisan vigilantism has exerted its ugly footprints 👣 on the political map of Ghana whiles Government looks on helplessly.
One year on, not even one constituency has received the promised US$1 million every year.
One year on, Free SHS for All has become ‘Beggar-Thy-Neighbour’ Free SHS for a few, and congestion in schools is causing serious morbidities and mortalities.
One year on, DKM victims have not received their much-publicized refunds.
One year on, the jobs are not being created, yet over 10,000 Ghanaians have been sacked and or displaced from their place of work.
One year on, the Ghana cedi has been weakened, fuel prices are over the roof and taxes are skyrocketing.
One year on, a running poll on myjoyonline.com patronized by over 80,000 Ghanaians have voted President Akufo-Addo and his administration as untrustworthy in the fight against corruption. And anti-corruption watchers are questioning the government’s commitment to dealing with the numerous cases of corruption under its watch.
Today marks 25 years of the 4th Republic, which has come to stay.
Mr President, lots and lots of terrible mistakes have been made by your government in this short period.
Mr President, cost of living has worsened for many a Ghanaian.
Mr President, the hopes of Ghanaians have tapered.
Mr President, Ghana 🇬🇭 is the only country we do have and has been an oasis of peace in a turbulent sub-region.
Mr President, as we observe 25 years of the 4th Republic, please put your feet down, for the ship of state is sinking.
Former President, John Dramni Mahama has indicated that the 4th Republic will be the country’s last republic and will last for several centuries to come.
Ghana will today mark twenty-five years of the 4th republic with a thanksgiving service to thank God for the strengthening of the country’s democracy over the last 25years.
In a Facebook post marking the day and reminding Ghanaians of the need to be committed to the country, John Dramani Mahama said “the 4th Republic will be our last Republic and would last for centuries to come. We owe the foundation of our Political Stability to the Good People of Ghana and the contributions of the various political parties and actors, post-January 07, 1993″.
He indicated that regardless of the challenges that come with Democracy, the country has chalked several successes that are worthy of praise.
“With all its ups and downs, democracy and constitutional rule have brought enormous dividends to our dear country, Ghana. We have experienced the most extensive period of economic expansion in our history.”
“Throughout my travels across the continent and interaction with academia, the political class and the youth of Africa, I have and will continue to make a case for our countries to continue the work of deeper democratic consolidation,” the former President said touting the democratic credentials of Ghana.
He indicated that “while Ghana has advanced significantly in democratic governance and economic progress during the last 25 years, we still have the challenges of political intolerance and extreme partisanship to deal with. I hope that beyond thanking God for this day, we shall spend our time and resources on how best to overcome the remaining hurdles that still stand in our way of establishing an ideal democracy”.
The Elmina Magistrate Court has sentenced a 37-year-old man identified as Yakubu Hakuna to 12 months in prison for brazenly engaging in open defecation at the Elmina beach in the Komenda-Edina-Eguafo-Abirem Municipality of the Central region.
He was among six people arrested Friday January 5, 2018 for openly attending to nature’s call at the beach—a conduct the Municipality’s by-laws frown on.
Monitoring the development for Starrfmonline.com, Central Correspondent Kwaku Baah-Acheamfour reported that Hakuna was jailed because he failed to raise the GH¢450 fine imposed on him for attending to nature’s call in the open.
The move, according to authorities in the area will help bring an abrupt end to the open defecation menace which has become prevalent in the area despite educational campaigns by the assembly to stop it.
Authorities further indicate that the fines and subsequent prison sentences will not only cause tenants to put pressure on landlords to provide homes with toilet facilities but ultimately help in stopping the potential outbreak of diseases due to the indiscriminate activity of defecation in the open.
The Upper East Regional Minister, Rockson Bukari has issued a barrage of stern warnings that he will not condone 10% kick back in contracts awarded by the various Assemblies because it is a recipe for shoddy works.
The Minister who was speaking at a media engagement organised by the Upper East Regional Coordinating Council indicated that the practice which is widespread must be stopped because it is synonymous corruption indicating that he will not condone it going forward.
He said, “Contracts awarded are tinted with corruption and favouritism and do not serve the national interest, as awards may go to incompetent non-performances”.
“The expression ‘ten percent’ is synonymous with corruption. In line with President Nana Addo’s vision to fighting corruption, I have from the scratch publicly declared at Tender committees, Heads of department meetings and other public events ‘Operation no Ten Percent’ and all contract awards must go to credible contractors without political affiliation. This will ensure quality execution of projects or service to the people and to further ensure value for money,” he said indicating that the kickbacks are a breeding factor for shoddy works executed by some contractors.
