Zuarungu shooting: IGP receives bodies of slain officers in Accra

The Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Dr. George Akuffo Dampare has received the bodies of Officers who were killed by armed robbers in Zuarungu in the Bolgatanga East District of the Upper East Region.

On the Ghana Police Service’s official Facebook page, the IGP and other members of the Service could be seen converging at the Airforce Base, Accra to receive the bodies.

“We bring to you a live coverage from the Airforce Base, Accra as the Inspector-General of Police, Dr. George Akuffo Dampare and some POMAB members airlifted the mortal remains of our gallant officers, General Constable Emmanuel Akowuah and General Constable Adam Suley from Police Public Safety Training School – Pwalugu, in the Upper East Region to the Police Hospital morgue for preservation.

The two officers lost their lives through the activities of criminals while on patrols within the Zuarungu Township to safeguard life and property on Wednesday, 15th December, 2021,” a statement on the Facebook page of the Police read.

The IGP, hours before, was in the region to commiserate with colleagues of the slain officers.

Meanwhile, Upper East Regional Police Public Affairs Officer, ASP David Fianko has said the Inspector General of Police, George Dampare Akufo has placed GHc50,000.00 bounty on criminals who shot and killed the two police officers at Zuarungu community in the Bolgatanga East District.

The Upper East Regional Police Command has also said that Service Rifle with number 79209 with 20 rounds of ammunitions booked by Constable Suley Adam, one of the police officers shot by robbers at Zuarungu, cannot be traced.

The Upper East Regional Minister, Stephen Yakubu has urged members of the public to be extra vigilant and furnish the police with information that will lead to the arrest of armed robbers who shot and killed two police officers at Zuarungu community in the Bolgatanga East District of the Upper East Region.

In an interview on A1 Radio’s Daybreak Upper East show, Mr. Yakubu noted that there is the need for residents of the region to do a yeoman’s service and assist the police to bring the perpetrators of the monstrous crime to book in order that they (residents) will go about their daily activities peacefully as yuletide approaches.
