Johnson Ayine, Deputy Upper East Regional Communications Director for the NPP has admitted that the party may have underestimated the interest in the Polling Station Election and as such, may not have floated enough nominations forms around the country.

This, Mr. Ayine said could have resulted into the disturbances that have been recorded in parts of the country. It could also be the reason why some aggrieved persons have levelled allegations against some Constituency and Regional Executive Committee members.

He said this when he spoke on A1 Radio’s Day Break Upper East.

“At times, when more people are interested in something, you get more people participating in that thing and I agree that the huge numbers demanding for the forms is not something that we really anticipated. It has come to us as a surprise,” he said.

While admitting the shortfall, Mr. Ayine encouraged all persons interested in the Polling Station elections to “keep calm, exercise patience because as far as the NPP is concerned and as far as we are all willing and able to work, the situation will be resolved”.

He called on party members not to be fixated on only winning their personal election but also focus on the greater good for the country. He reminded the members that they can continue to serve and continue to work for the party to retain power without necessarily being an executive member stressing that “people should have the commitment and dedication and work for the party”.

Mr. Ayine said it has come to light that some Electoral Coordinators skew the distribution of nomination forms deliberately in an attempt to put people in advantageous places to secure their bid when the time comes for Constituency and Regional Elections.
