Member of Parliament for the Tempane Constituency, Lydia Akanvariba Lamisi, has urged the Electoral Commission Chairperson, Jean Adukwei Mensa, to ensure peaceful elections on December 7, 2024.
Mrs. Akanvariba emphasized that in times of conflict, women, children, and youth are the most vulnerable and suffer the most. Therefore, as a woman, Ms. Mensa should prioritize peace and address concerns raised by the National Democratic Congress (NDC), including calls for a forensic audit of the voters’ register.
The Tempane MP’s concerns reflect the NDC’s ongoing efforts to ensure transparency and fairness in the upcoming elections. Yesterday, the party embarked on a peaceful demonstration across the 16 regions of Ghana, dubbed ‘Enough is Enough,’ to demand that all anomalies in the voters’ register be addressed by the Electoral Commission before December 7.
Mrs. Akanvariba was speaking at the Upper East Regional Electoral Commission office premises in Bolgatanga after the leadership of the NDC presented their petition to the regional EC Director, William Obeng Adarkwa.
Mrs. Akanvariba also called on the people of the Upper East region to continue supporting the NDC by showing up in large numbers on December 7 at their various polling stations and voting for the party.
“When there is a problem, it is we the women and the youth who suffer. So this is a warning I am sending to Jean Mensa: she should be a woman of peace, not someone who will create problems for this country.”
Among many other NDC Members of Parliament who took part in the demonstration in the region was James Agalga, MP for the Builsa South constituency, who stated that the NDC will never sit by and tolerate any manipulations in the upcoming election.
Mr. Agalga called on all party supporters to always support the NDC for victory on December 7, 2024, which he said would place Ghana in a safe position.
