A lecturer with the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and technology Political Science department, Dr. Adu-Gyamfi has called for the dissolution of the current leadership of the outgoing National Democratic Congress or risk staying in opposition for a very long time.

According to him, the current crop of leaders have failed the people and that was reflective in the outcome of the December 7 election where the silent majority in the party failed to turn out to vote in order to give the opposition the chance to govern.

“The current crop of executives in the National Democratic Congress failed their people and that could be seen in the election results. The silent majority in the party failed to come out to vote in order to send a signal to their party leadership that they had failed them.”

Dr. Adu-Gyamfi was optimistic that a change in the current crop of party executives and the flagbearer will brighten the chances of the National Democratic Congress in 2020 to prepare them for power in 2024.

“If the NDC is able to restructure their party and get a new crop of executives to be at the helm of affairs, they can give the NPP a good match in 2020 although they cannot win but will prepare them for power in 2024. But if they decide to maintain the current executives including President Mahama, the party will embarrass itself in 2020 and will risk staying in opposition for a very long time.”

He, however, debunked the assertion that the New Patriotic Party will not be able to work at fulfilling their promises saying: “the assertion that the NPP will not be able to meet the expectations of Ghanaians is unfounded. In the NPP’s first term, they will work and even if it is a magic wand they will use to work for Ghanaians they will do that. However, in their second term, that is where the inertia will come in and they may face huge challenges”.

Dr. Adu-Gyamfi however, advised the incoming New Patriotic Party to take some lessons from the story of the National Democratic Congress and not fail Ghanaians adding that they should also use their young human resources in order to have a generational balance.
