Zuarungu shooting: Police gun down suspected cops killer, others still on the run

The Ghana Police Service has said it has gunned down one of the robbers suspected to have shot and killed two police officers in Zuarungu in the Bolgatanga East District of the Upper East Region.
In a statement on the Service’s Facebook page, it said “a special Anti-Robbery squad, assisted by the Upper East Regional Police Command through an intelligence-led special anti-robbery operation at Kpatia in the Talensi District has gunned down suspect Laayaame Simon alias Yendu aged 34 years, one of the three suspected armed robbers who callously murdered two Police officers at Zuarungu in the Upper East Region. A special targeted intelligence-led operation is being carried to get the rest of the suspects arrested.
Details will be communicated in due time”.

The two officers lost their lives through the activities of criminals while on patrols within the Zuarungu Township to safeguard life and property on Wednesday, 15th December, 2021,” a statement on the Facebook page of the Police read.

The IGP, was in the region to commiserate with colleagues of the slain officers.

Meanwhile, Upper East Regional Police Public Affairs Officer, ASP David Fianko said the Inspector General of Police, George Dampare Akufo has placed GHc50,000.00 bounty on criminals who shot and killed the two police officers at Zuarungu community in the Bolgatanga East District.

The Upper East Regional Police Command also said that Service Rifle with number 79209 with 20 rounds of ammunitions booked by Constable Suley Adam, one of the police officers shot by robbers at Zuarungu, cannot be traced.

The Upper East Regional Minister, Stephen Yakubu urged members of the public to be extra vigilant and furnish the police with information that will lead to the arrest of armed robbers who shot and killed two police officers at Zuarungu community in the Bolgatanga East District of the Upper East Region.

In an interview on A1 Radio’s Daybreak Upper East show, Mr. Yakubu noted that there is the need for residents of the region to do a yeoman’s service and assist the police to bring the perpetrators of the monstrous crime to book in order that they (residents) will go about their daily activities peacefully as yuletide approaches.
